Oumaäti Honors the Immemorial Art of Moroccan Leather Artisanship with a Contemporary Flair

A passion project born out of the desire to honor the immemorial art of Moroccan leather artisanship, Oumaäti is a family-owned fine leather bag brand breathing life into one of Morocco’s most beloved exports. Immortalizing the Moroccan craft, the brand perpetuates Moroccan leather artisanship while anchoring it in modernity using contemporary designs. With an ethos built on respecting the traditions of leatherwork and promoting its origins, Oumaäti works exclusively with Moroccan artisans and companies, with a preference for short circuits.

The sister duo behind Oumaäti studied fashion in two of the world’s design capitals, Casablanca and Paris, gaining a wealth of industry experience before joining forces on this project. Oumama and Naila Charkaoui come from a long line of artisans. Their father and mentor, Maäti, is a seasoned leather artisan and the technical genius behind their innovative designs blurring the past with the present. All the bags are handmade in the Oumaäti family workshop in Casablanca, Morocco. Their father orchestrates the entire production of their creations, drawing on more than four decades of experience. Their debut collection is an ode to family, inter-generational knowledge and Moroccan heritage, all unified by the desire to uphold and perpetuate the heritage of their ancestors.
